End of Year Calender
So we’ve just got through July, and whilst it’s been wet and sometimes cold, I’ve been pleased with our numbers both on the track and especially at the games. Our performances have been strong, and it’s been good to see the results considering neither team has had their ultimate strongest team on the park at any time. The only disappointment was the Saturday night fixture. Dono had 25 put their hand up to play but it appeared 9 of them went to the wrong ground. Thanks again to Thommo and Chainsaw who made themselves available, and then fronted up the next day. I am proud that our club haven’t had to ask for players to top up our teams, and if anything we have given players to the opposition to make it a decent game.
While I’m on the negatives, your committee works hard to attract sponsors, whose contribution allows us to keep fees down, and provide things like free meals each week, cheaper bar prices and other entertainment. All most of them ask in return is that we support their businesses, and show our faces every now and then. It's not much to ask but means so very much to our sponsors year in and year out. So please have a think about that next time we have get togethers at one of our sponsors locations. You are guaranteed a good day, a good time and always a good price. It's coming towards the end of the season and you don't get to do these things too often the rest of year. Our club is the envy of the competition and it's events like this which make us strong now and into the future.
Cheers
Moving Forward.... Wednesday night training is at the Gil with Choke the Chicken on again. This weeks team is headed by Chainsaw and the theme is Asian food, so stay back and enjoy Deanna’s cooking. Normal other stuff such as $50 board, etc.
We’ve finally got certainty on the games for Sunday August 7. We are playing at Ellenbrook and we have organized a bus to help with transport. $20 gets you a seat on the bus and the club will supply refreshments. The bus will be leaving Gil Fraser no later than 11am, and will be back by 6pm. Once again, we get a lot of requests for bus trips, so get on board and relax and enjoy the day. Game times are Masters playing Quinns at 12.50 pm on oval 2, and the Supers are the following game at 1.55 pm against Hammond Park on oval 1. Yes it looks like we are playing teams more than once, and in some cases that is the case, but who cares, we are playing footy. The following round we have been fixtured to play Saturday evening at Warnbro on August 20. Masters are playing Brentwood at 5.40 pm and the Supers are playing Mandurah at 6.50 pm. I get a lot of requests for night games so here’s our opportunity. As we are nearing the end of the season it is time to start putting some dates in your diary. Wednesday September 7 is our final training session and as we have been doing recently, we will hold our AGM immediately after training, and then a hearty meal, a few drinks and some entertainment afterwards.
I will be putting my hand up for president next year but it will be my last year in the position. We would like to see interested guys who want to be part of the club moving forward put their hand up to start serving apprenticeships with the executive so there is a smooth transition. Please feel free to have a chat with any of the current committee about what’s involved. 100 Club is off and running so get in quick to secure your number. The draw will be held on Saturday September 17 at Gil Fraser from 1-5pm. See Wildy or Cannonball about getting a number. $100 gets you entry, food, drink and entertainment, as well as an opportunity to win $1500, as well as a number of other prizes on the day. Music will be provided by Old Play (not a Coldplay cover band I m assured) fronted by Morgs and a few of his mates. Feel free to get your mates involved, sell them a number and bring them down and show them how good it is to be a part of the Phantoms. Our final event of the year is our windup which is being held at The Old Courthouse this year on Friday, October 21st. Tickets will be $75 for a single or $140 if you bring a partner and includes all food, drink and entertainment. It is our night of nights and celebrates the year and all those who have had some input in the club for the season. Looking really forward, next year the club is officially 40 years old and we are hoping to host a number of events to celebrate this including a night round, past players day at our normal round and generally making a big fuss of this fantastic organization.
