Welcome to season 2023 all past, present and new Phantoms. We are looking forward to an exciting season full of footy, functions, friends and frothy’s. As most know we are celebrating 40 years as a club in the WA Masters in 2023 and we have plans to celebrate the past and present.

We are excited to announce that we have decided that as well as a Supers and Masters team we will have a Seniors side in the competition this season. This will mean numbers may be a bit tight on occasions but hopefully everyone will turn up when they can. We have a proud record of not requiring top up players from the opposition and it’d be great to keep that going.

Age brackets are as follows:

  • Supers 35 and over. We are allowed 2 players 33 and over but they can’t be played in key positions. (35 is turning 35 in the 2023 calendar year

  • Masters 43 and over. (43 is turning 43 in the 2023 calendar year)

  • Seniors 50 and over. (50 is turning 50 in the 2023 calendar year) We are allowed 2 * 48+ players on the ground in the seniors, but we have to have organized with the opposition side first, they can’t be played in key positions and they must wear a red armband.

For any more information and clarification on this, you can go to the WA Masters website and read the relevant by laws. https://www.aflmasterswa.com.au/

Whilst we only have fixture dates at the moment I can announce that our home game will be at Gil Fraser in Round 6 on June 18 so pencil that one in.

Other notable rounds will be Round 1 on April 2nd, the Busselton carnival on the long weekend in June and the first ever indigenous round which will be hosted by Vic Park pigs in Round 7. We will be wearing a jumper designed by Dave “Wardong” Collard for this round and it’s a good looking jumper.

Training is at Gil Fraser this Thursday March 9th. Be there at 5.30 warming up for a 6pm start. At this stage we will train Thursday night for the next 2 weeks and revert to Wednesday on the 22nd of March. There will be a couple of refreshments after training so I look forward to everyone getting down there Thursday and get stuck into season 2023.

AS USUAL, keep an eye on the website for any updates. See you Thursday.

Regards, Regards, Steve Ross
